Background of the Study

Narrative strategies are vital in political discourse as they help shape public perception and mobilize support. In Kano, community leaders use Hausa political discourse to communicate policies, address communal issues, and inspire collective action. These narratives often incorporate storytelling, historical references, and moral appeals to build legitimacy and emotional resonance (Suleiman, 2023). Political discourse in Hausa is characterized by its rhetorical richness and cultural specificity, where narratives are crafted to align with traditional values and contemporary political realities. This study assesses the narrative strategies employed by community leaders in Hausa political discourse by analyzing speech transcripts, public addresses, and media appearances. The research will focus on how these strategies enhance persuasive communication, create coherent political narratives, and foster community identity. By understanding the narrative techniques used in Hausa political discourse, the study aims to contribute to theoretical models of political communication and provide practical insights for improving civic engagement and governance in Kano (Abubakar, 2024; Musa, 2025).

Statement of the Problem

Despite the importance of narrative strategies in political discourse, there is limited empirical research on their application among Hausa community leaders in Kano. Traditional political communication models often fail to capture the culturally specific narrative techniques employed in Hausa, leading to an incomplete understanding of how these strategies influence public opinion and community mobilization. This research gap hinders the development of effective political messaging and civic education programs tailored to the Hausa cultural context (Suleiman, 2023; Musa, 2025).

Objectives of the Study:

1. To identify narrative strategies in Hausa political discourse.

2. To assess their impact on persuasive communication.

3. To propose guidelines for enhancing political narratives.

Research Questions:

1. What narrative strategies are prevalent in Hausa political discourse?

2. How do these strategies influence public opinion?

3. What improvements can be made to political messaging?

Significance of the Study :

This study is significant as it provides insights into the narrative strategies used by Hausa community leaders, informing political communication practices and civic engagement initiatives. The findings will aid in developing more effective political messaging tailored to the Hausa cultural context (Suleiman, 2023; Abubakar, 2024).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:

This study is limited to analyzing Hausa political discourse among community leaders in Kano using discourse analysis and does not extend to other regions or languages.

Definitions of Terms:

• Narrative Strategies: Techniques used to structure and present a story in a persuasive manner.

• Political Discourse: Language used by political figures to communicate with the public.

• Community Leaders: Influential individuals who represent local interests.
